Vibration Awareness

About this course.

This course raises awareness of the risks from vibration at work and explains, in practical terms, how to assess and control them. Regular exposure to vibration from hand-held tools and from vehicles and machinery can cause permanent and disabling health conditions — yet almost all of this harm is preventable through good planning, the right equipment and sensible working practices. The course explains what vibration is and how it is measured, the duties placed on employers and workers by the Control of Vibration at Work Regulations 2005, how daily exposure is assessed against the exposure action value and exposure limit value, the two main types of exposure (hand-arm and whole-body vibration) and the health effects each can cause, the hierarchy of control used to reduce risk, and the role of health surveillance in catching problems early.

It is written for anyone in a UK workplace who uses vibrating tools or plant — for example in construction, manufacturing, foundries, quarrying, forestry, motor vehicle repair, grounds maintenance and utilities — together with the supervisors and managers responsible for keeping them safe. No prior knowledge is assumed. The course concludes with a 15-question multiple-choice assessment, which you must pass at the 80% pass mark to earn your CPD certificate.
