OVERVIEW
This course raises awareness of method statements — what they are, how they are produced, what they should contain, and how they are used in practice on UK worksites. A method statement turns the findings of a risk assessment into a clear, step-by-step safe system of work, so that a task is carried out safely and consistently by everyone involved, every time. The course explains the legal context (the Health and Safety at Work etc.
Act 1974, the Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999 and, on construction work, the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015), the relationship between risk assessments and method statements (together often called 'RAMS'), how to develop a method statement step by step, the information it should contain, and how to approve, brief, use, maintain and review it. It includes a fully worked example method statement for a real-world task, practical writing guidance, checklists and tables, and a 20-question assessment. The aim is that, by the end, a learner can recognise a good method statement, understand why each part matters, and play their part in preparing, agreeing or following one safely.
