OVERVIEW
This course raises awareness of mental health, helps reduce stigma, and supports you to look after your own mental health and recognise when someone may need help. Mental health problems are common — around one in four people in England experience a mental health problem each year, and around one in six report a common mental health problem such as anxiety or depression in any given week. Like physical health, mental health is something everyone has, all of the time. The course explains what mental health is, why awareness matters, the relevant UK law, the common types of mental health problem and their signs, how common they are, the mental health continuum, protective factors and wellbeing, how to start a supportive conversation, and where to find help in the UK. It promotes an open, supportive and non-judgemental approach.
It is awareness-based and does not replace professional advice, diagnosis or treatment. The course takes approximately two hours of eLearning to complete and is suitable for everyone, whatever their role. You do not need any prior knowledge. Throughout, you will find real UK examples, practical conversation tips and clear signposting so that you finish the course knowing not only what mental health is, but what to do — for yourself and for others.
