This course raises your awareness of equality, diversity and inclusion (EDI) so that you better understand the differences between individuals and why everyone must be treated fairly. A diverse and inclusive workplace is not only a legal requirement under the Equality Act 2010 — it benefits people, teams, organisations and the wider community. Whether you work with colleagues, manage a team, serve customers or deal with members of the public, the way you behave has a direct effect on whether people feel respected, safe and able to contribute. The course explains what equality, diversity and inclusion mean and how they differ from one another, the Equality Act 2010 and the responsibilities it places on employers and employees, the nine protected characteristics in detail, the different forms that discrimination and unacceptable behaviour can take, the public sector equality duty, the role of unconscious bias, and the practical steps everyone can take to promote inclusion and challenge discrimination.
Throughout the course you will find worked examples and realistic workplace scenarios drawn from UK settings. These are designed to help you recognise discrimination when it occurs — which is not always obvious — and to understand what good practice looks like. The course concludes with a 20-question assessment. The content is current as at June 2026 and reflects the Equality Act 2010 and guidance from the Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC) and Acas.
