OVERVIEW
This course raises awareness of the environmental problems caused by plastic waste and the practical steps you can take to reduce the amount of plastic you use and throw away. Plastic is cheap, versatile and useful, but most plastic is made from fossil fuels, takes hundreds of years to break down, and is now found polluting oceans, rivers, soil, the air and even the human body. The scale of the problem is large and growing, but it is also one of the environmental issues where individual and workplace choices make a genuine, measurable difference. The course explains the problem with plastic, the different types and uses of plastic, the law and policy that now apply in the UK, how to choose more environmentally sound products, and the actions individuals and organisations can take to cut plastic waste.
It promotes a practical, evidence-based ‘reduce, reuse, recycle’ approach and helps you separate genuine improvements from greenwashing. By the end of the course you will understand why plastic is so persistent, what the UK is doing through bans and the Plastic Packaging Tax, how recycling really works in your local area, and what you can do at home and at work to make a difference. The course ends with a 20-question assessment.
