Assessment sits at the heart of education and training. It is how we find out what a learner knows and can do, how we give them feedback that helps them improve, and how we confirm to employers, awarding organisations and regulators that a qualification has genuinely been earned. Over the last decade, the way assessment is carried out has changed dramatically. Paper portfolios crammed into ring binders have given way to e-portfolios; observations that once required an assessor to travel across the country can now be captured on video; and knowledge tests that once meant a room full of desks and pencils are increasingly delivered on screen. This course explores digital assessment methods and e-portfolios at an awareness level, helping practitioners assess confidently, fairly and securely in a digital world. The course is written for assessors, trainers, tutors and internal quality assurers (IQAs) who use, or are about to start using, digital assessment tools and e-portfolio systems. It assumes you already understand the fundamentals of assessment and quality assurance — this is not an introduction to being an assessor — and instead focuses on what changes, and what stays exactly the same, when assessment moves online. The single most important message is that technology changes the how, not the what. The principles of good assessment — that evidence must be valid, authentic, current, sufficient and reliable — apply just as firmly to a video clip or an on-screen test as they ever did to a paper witness statement. Across four sections you will look at what digital and e-assessment actually are and why organisations adopt them; how e-portfolio systems work in day-to-day practice, from mapping evidence to criteria through to external quality assurance; how to protect the quality, authenticity and security of assessment carried out remotely; and how to meet your responsibilities around data protection, accessibility and inclusion. Because platforms, product features and awarding-organisation rules change frequently, the course stays deliberately at the level of principles and good practice rather than step-by-step instructions for any one system. Always check the current guidance for the specific platform and qualification you work with. The course concludes with a 20- question multiple-choice assessment, which you must pass at 80% to earn your CPD certificate.
This is an awareness-level CPD course. It develops your understanding and does not confer assessor or quality-assurer status; it is not a TAQA or CAVA unit or any Ofqual-regulated qualification. It concludes with a 20-question multiple-choice assessment, which you must pass at 80% to earn your certificate.
