OVERVIEW
This course raises awareness of child sexual exploitation (CSE) so that you can better understand the risks to children and how to help protect them. CSE is a form of child sexual abuse and a serious safeguarding issue that can affect any child, in any community. It is part of the wider statutory framework for safeguarding in the United Kingdom and sits alongside other forms of harm such as neglect, physical abuse, emotional abuse and criminal exploitation. The course explains what CSE is, the legal and policy framework that surrounds it, the factors that can make a child vulnerable, how children are groomed and exploited and by whom, the warning signs and effects, how to respond to concerns and disclosures, and how to help prevent CSE.
It promotes a calm, child-centred and safeguarding-led approach built on professional curiosity and multi-agency working. It does not contain graphic content. The learning is suitable for anyone who works or volunteers with children and young people, whether in education, health, social care, sport, faith settings, or the community and voluntary sector. It supports the safeguarding responsibilities that every organisation working with children is expected to hold, and complements — but does not replace — your own organisation's safeguarding policy and training.
